Melchor Contracting were engaged to upgrade the processing plant at Rio Tinto’s Mesa J iron ore mine. The mine is located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, 16 kilometres south-west of Pannawonica, and approximately 200 kilometres south-west from Karratha. |

The upgrade consisted of bulk and detailed earthworks, installation of underground services, complex formwork and temporary works, steel reinforcement installation and concrete placement.

The project consisted of approximately 4,000 cubic meters of concrete poured within a three-month period. A total of 350 tonnes of steel reinforcement was installed, which included over seven large ring beams. An earthwork crew also displaced over 4,500 cubic meters of soil in the bulk earthworks scope.
