Melchor Contracting were engaged to complete the installation of approximately 11km of noise walls, as part of the NorthLink WA -Stage 2 project. NorthLink Stage 2 was one of Perth’s largest road projects, providing an enhanced transport line for economic development and community interaction.

Commencing in September 2017, the noise walls were built between the road and residential properties to protect residents from traffic noise upon completion of the interchange, as well as help combat dust levels during construction.

Approximately half of the footings were Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piles, the other half were Bored piles. Cast-in-place, Melchor Contracting utilised CFA Piles to cater for the soil conditions beneath the water table, which also allowed for vibration free and low noise installation, ensuring minimal impact to the surrounding urban environment.

Melchor Contracting developed a temporary works system, reducing the materials and time required to complete these works, which resulted in reduced cost for the client. The noise walls installed consisted of Posts and Precast Panels, topped with Acrylic Panels (to allow for transfer of light) where necessary.
