The Thornlie-Cockburn Rail Project is part of the larger METRONET program of government initiatives. The Thornlie-Cockburn Link will be Perth’s first east–west cross-line connection. The project involves the installation of new rail track for the ARC industrial rail line, alongside the delivery of new passenger rail infrastructure on the existing ARC freight line.

Melchor was engaged to supply labour to assist with the construction of 500 metres of in-situ concrete retaining L-wall structures. This scope of works includes the installation of formwork, reinforcement, and concrete for three-metre-wide retaining wall bases, followed by 3.5-metre-high retaining walls.

Melchor has also been tasked with assisting in the construction of precast wall panels for the F6 retaining wall structure running adjacent to the ARC rail line to the Nicholson Road overpass. This includes the installation of formwork, reinforcement and concrete for 340 precast panels, stack-cast and ranging from 0.6 tonnes to five tonnes in weight.
