NorthLink Stage 2 - Civil works and site establishment
- Location: Malaga, Western Australia
- Project Owner: Main Roads WA
- Year completed: 2017 - 2019
Melchor was engaged to complete the installation of approximately 11 kilometres of noise walls as part of the NorthLink WA – Stage 2 project. NorthLink Stage 2 was one of Perth’s largest road infrastructure projects, delivering an enhanced transport corridor to support economic development and community connectivity.
Commencing in September 2017, the noise walls were constructed between the roadway and adjacent residential properties to protect residents from traffic noise following completion of the interchange, as well as to help mitigate dust during construction.
Approximately half of the footings comprised Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piles, with the remaining footings constructed using bored piles. Cast in place, the CFA piles were utilised to accommodate soil conditions below the water table, while also allowing for vibration-free and low-noise installation, minimising impact on the surrounding urban environment.
Melchor also developed a temporary works system that reduced the materials and time required to complete the works, resulting in cost savings for the client. The installed noise walls consisted of posts and precast panels, with acrylic panels incorporated where required to allow for light transmission.
In addition, Melchor was engaged to complete site establishment works for three work compounds. These works included the setup of site offices, construction of footpaths, electrical and plumbing connections, and installation of shade sails.
