Mount Holland Concentrator
- Location: Mount Holland, Western Australia
- Project Owner: Covalent Lithium
- Year completed: 2021 - 2022
Melchor was initially engaged to assist in the finalisation of the Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) review for the civil package of the Covalent Lithium Mount Holland Concentrator Project, for which Primero was successfully awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract.
Developed by Covalent Lithium Pty Ltd, the project is a fully integrated lithium operation comprising a mine, concentrator, aerodrome, village, and supporting infrastructure at Mount Holland, together with a refinery at Kwinana. The project is centred on the Earl Grey hard-rock lithium deposit, located south of Southern Cross in Western Australia, approximately 500 kilometres east of Perth.
Once operational, the project will produce approximately 50,200 tonnes of battery-grade lithium hydroxide monohydrate per annum, equivalent to 45,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent. The Kwinana refinery will receive approximately 383,000 dry tonnes of spodumene concentrate per year at 5.5% Li₂O from the Mount Holland Concentrator, supplying the growing global battery materials market.
Following its involvement during the FEED phase, Melchor was engaged to undertake the detailed earthworks and construction of all major concrete structures associated with the concentrator. The scope included more than 12,000 cubic metres of structural concrete and over 1,500 tonnes of reinforcement, demonstrating Melchor’s capability to deliver large-scale civil and concrete works for complex processing facilities.
