- Location: Pannawonica, Western Australia
- Project Owner: Rio Tinto
- Year completed: 2020
Melchor was engaged to upgrade the processing plant at Rio Tinto’s Mesa J iron ore mine. The upgrade works comprised bulk and detailed earthworks, the installation of underground services, complex formwork and temporary works, steel reinforcement installation and concrete placement.
The project involved the placement of approximately 4,000 cubic metres of concrete within a three-month period. A total of 350 tonnes of steel reinforcement was installed, including more than seven large ring beams. In addition, Melchor’s earthworks team excavated and relocated over 4,500 cubic metres of material as part of the bulk earthworks scope.
Delivered within a compressed schedule, the project demonstrated Melchor’s capability to safely and efficiently execute complex civil and concrete works within an operational mining environment.
