Melchor completed the civil scope for the Covalent Lithium Refinery in Kwinana from 2021 to 2023. Due to operational requirements, the stacks on Trains 1 and 2 needed to be extended by 50 metres vertically within a short timeframe to keep the plant operational.

The stack extension works included the construction of two additional pile caps to support the structure. Covalent engaged Melchor to complete the piling, ground stabilisation, reinforcement, formwork, anchor bolt installation, and concrete works for two large pile caps, each in excess of 250 cubic metres.

The works were carried out in a brownfields operational environment and required coordination between Melchor and Covalent operations teams. The project was delivered successfully and ahead of schedule.
