In 2017, Talison Tianqi Lithium Australia commenced construction of a large chemical-grade lithium processing plant (CGP2).

During stage one of the project, Melchor provided all labour, plant, temporary works and materials for steel fixing, concrete placement, and formwork.

Now fully operational within the Kwinana Industrial Area, the plant produced Western Australia’s first battery-grade lithium hydroxide in May 2022. This product is supplied to global customers and is used in the manufacture of rechargeable batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.

Key works completed by Melchor included:

  • Placement of approximately 13,000 cubic metres of concrete within a typical light mining processing facility

  • Construction of eight major structures, reaching heights of up to 14 metres, including 2-metre suspended slabs

  • Delivery of a high volume of reinforced walls and ground slabs

Following the successful delivery of stage one, Georgiou engaged Melchor to undertake additional works as part of stage two.
