Covalent Lithium Refinery

Melchor were engaged by Covalent Lithium Pty Ltd to perform the Civil and Concrete package for the refinery, located in Kwinana, WA. This package includes bulk earthworks, drainage, road works, precast piling, underground services and concrete structure construction.

Melchor installed over 2000 precast piles, 10km of underground piping, approximately 50km of underground LV/HV and communications cabling and earthing, and 25,000m3 of concrete. Some of the piers in the processing plant are over 16m high and poured in one lift to maximise efficiency.

As part of the project the Melchor civils team worked with Western Power to construct the new switchyard associated with the project.

During 2022, Melchor achieved the following on the refinery site:

• 25,000m3 of concrete placed

• 12,500 anchor bolts installed

• 46t of cast-in elements installed

• 2,250t of reinforcing

• 270t of mesh

• 200,000m2 of basecourse pavements

• 46.3km of underground cabling and earthing

• 2,260 Drive piles

• 220,000m2 Pavements

• 38,000m below ground E,I&C services

• 10,000m below ground hydraulic services
