Cape Lambert High Density Ore (CLAHDO)
- Location: Cape Lambert
- Project Owner: Rio Tinto
- Year completed: 2024 - 2025
The project involved the construction of a new sampling facility at the tail end of the Cape Lambert A Wharf, designed to accommodate the higher-density ores being produced from the mines.
To support the larger and more complex facility, the area at the end of the wharf was extended and upgraded. This included the construction of a piled retaining wall and a new section of seawall. The new sampling facility, built within this expanded footprint, incorporates advanced sampling robots, new feed and reject conveyors, and all associated electrical, mechanical, and structural systems.
Melchor was responsible for the entire civil scope of the project. This included bulk earthworks to extend the site to the new seawall alignment, construction of the piled retaining wall (including capping beam and facing wall), seawall construction, all concrete foundations, and the completion of final roadworks.
