As part of a Main Roads WA and Perth Transport Authority upgrade, Melchor was tasked with replacing the ageing Ashton Avenue Bridge over the railway in Claremont in 2018. The original timber bridge, constructed more than 100 years ago, was replaced with a modern steel and concrete structure to ensure its suitability for all standard vehicles.

Melchor was engaged to perform all formwork, steel fixing and concrete placement, as well as provide direct supervision of the works.

Works included:

  • Construction of abutment wing walls

  • Deck pours and formwork

  • Steel fixing

  • Concrete placement

A key feature of the project was the construction of the bridge over a live PTA metro train line.
