Melchor Contracting were engaged to upgrade the processing plant at Rio Tinto’s Mesa J iron ore mine.
The upgrade consists of bulk and detailed earthworks, installation of underground services, complex formwork and temporary works, steel reinforcement installation and concrete placement.
The project consisted of approximately 4000 m3 of concrete poured within a three-month period. A total of 350 tonnes of steel reinforcement was installed, which included over seven large ring beams. An earthwork crew also displaced over 4500 m3 of soil in the bulk earthworks scope.
