Thornlie- Cockburn link will be Perth’s first East-West cross line connection.

Elliot Place and Cameron Street had become separated a passenger rail corridor. The new Elliot Place footbridge will reconnect these two residential streets.

The footbridge’s substructure consisted of large footings up to 100m3 each, beneath a series of plinths and 4m high deflection walls.

As the bridge site spans between two residential cul-de-sacs and the sunken rail corridor, space was at a premium and as such the superstructure elements were prefabricated and transported. Melchor constructed 22 precast ramps sections, each weighing approximately 35t. The bridge section is a continuous steel box truss, on which Melchor constructed the in-situ deck and ramp infills.

This scope showcased Melchor’s expertise in in-situ wall construction, precast elements and associated temporary works; much of which was gained during construction of various similar structures on the Yanchep Rail Extension Project.
